Capital committee endorses $2.35M pool overhaul, defers four DPW articles
SUDBURY — February 19, 2024 — Sudbury capital committee endorses $2.35M Atkinson Pool overhaul and four other articles. The Capital Improvement Advisory Committee voted 7-0 Monday to advance five spring town meeting articles totaling more than $2.8 million, with the pool work consuming the bulk. Combined Facilities Director Sandra presented a breakdown including roughly $600,000 for a new dehumidification unit, $550,000 for roofing, $385,000 in structural work covering tile regrouting, and a $255,000 contingency, with the 40-year-old pool closed for at least two months. The committee also approved $200,000 to replace six 20-year-old DPW rooftop HVAC units during a planned roof and solar installation, $150,000 for heat pumps in Haynes Elementary corridors after staff and students slipped on condensation-soaked tile, $100,000 for the first year of a five-year classroom equipment replacement, and a DPW salt shed cover replacement. The remote meeting was disrupted when an audience member delivered racist and antisemitic invective during public comment; Chair Matthew Dallas closed public participation for the remainder of the session.
