Capital committee recommends $830,000 Route 117/Mossman signal in 3-2 vote

SUDBURY — October 11, 2023 — Sudbury capital panel splits 3-2-1 on $830,000 Route 117/Mossman signal. The Capital Improvement Advisory Committee narrowly recommended approval of Article 10 — renumbered from 11 on the published warrant — funding a signalized intersection at Route 117 and Mossman Road from the Capital Stabilization Fund. Chair Matthew Dallas and member Ark Pang joined a third member to back the motion moved by Vice-Chair Peter Iovanella, who then abstained citing his proximity to the intersection. Member Thomas S. Travers and member Susan Asbedian-Ciaffi voted no, with Travers objecting that the project "was not a priority before" and that he "can't approve something in a vacuum" before the spring capital list arrives. DPW Director Dan Nason told the Finance Committee the $830,000 figure is an engineer's estimate, not a bid, and that the project is a traffic, not safety, issue. Special Town Meeting is Oct. 23.
