Capital committee tables Haynes and Nixon roof votes, demands designed numbers

SUDBURY — March 3, 2025 — Sudbury capital committee tables votes on Haynes and Nixon school roofs, citing absence of design-based numbers. The Capital Improvement Advisory Committee voted 7-0 on March 3 to back the need for both roof replacements but withhold dollar endorsement of the $3.5 million Haynes article and the $2.755 million Nixon article until designers produce real estimates; the projects are pursuing MSBA reimbursement of at least 31 percent. Member Tom Travers said he was "not ready to say that the $2.7 million … is adequate," and Finance Director Victor Garofalo told the committee that if a design is not complete by town meeting the articles will be indefinitely postponed to a fall session. The committee did recommend a $152,000 districtwide HVAC engineering study, a $190,000 fire alarm upgrade, a $382,000 six-wheel dump truck, a $146,000 plow truck, a $500,000 ambulance, a $725,000 fire engine and $125,000 in matching funds for an emergency operations center design study against a $500,000 state earmark.
