Sudbury residents overwhelmingly back camp continuation and expanded public access for Liberty Ledge-Sewataro. About 55 residents attended the Liberty Ledge-Sewataro Advisory Committee's first public input session Wednesday, with roughly 30 in person and 25 online. Chair Dave Henkels and Management Analyst James Gowdy walked participants through four structured activities on the 44-acre town-owned property, purchased in 2019 and currently serving about 700 summer campers.
Groups called repeatedly for a longer camp lease, some proposing 100 years, along with expanded Park and Recreation programming, teen gathering space, public swimming, farmers markets, and better signage and advertising. Housing ideas ranged from affordable units for town employees and first responders to age-restricted senior housing. Resident Jackie Holcomb pressed the committee on its objective, asking "what is the driver and what's the objective that we're trying to achieve?" No votes were taken.
The advisory report is due to the Select Board October 31, 2026.
