Commission on Disability · Meeting of August 20, 2026
Sudbury's Commission on Disability elected a new chair who disclosed she may soon lose her own apartment. Members voted unanimously to make Karen Jones chair and Elizabeth "Bessie" Strzok vice chair, after Jones said her complex's new corporate owner, which she called "Vivmark," has guaranteed her only one more year, warning "if I can't stay, I have to resign from everything." The commission also voted 4-0 to authorize Jones to seek $13,000 in grants to keep the Real Chill Ride adaptive biking program running next year, up from an $11,000 grant this year, and approved up to $3,000 for its accessible trick-or-treat event. Member Cheryl Wallace reported a new wheelchair-accessible van is now available for one round trip a month within 25 miles under a contract with vendor Fednor, calling it "better than nothing." Members also discussed recruiting replacements for departing member Anika, with the commission capped at nine working seats under state guidance.
