Sudbury capital committee endorses Iovanella, walks through project list

SUDBURY — November 16, 2022 — Sudbury's Capital Improvement Advisory Committee unanimously recommended Peter Iovanella to the Select Board for appointment. Iovanella, an owner's-representative construction manager with experience on a 23-story Brooklyn condo and a Kenmore Square project, told Chair Matthew Dallas and members Susan Asbedian-Ciaffi and Thomas Travers that budgeting and cost estimating are his strongest skills. Facilities staff then reported the Haskell Field Smile playground rebuild, originally pegged near $600,000, is now estimated at nearly $1 million; a $455,000 SPS HVAC project is being rebid to weigh higher-efficiency options; and groundbreaking on the combined fire station is set for December. Members sharply questioned why Atkinson Pool ventilation work — described as on "its last legs" — was excluded from the Fairbank Community Center build, calling the omission "bad value engineering."
