Park and Recreation Commission returns $3,910 unused Sudbury Foundation grant

SUDBURY — February 13, 2023 — Sudbury Park and Recreation returns nearly $4,000 in unused grant funds as pool pipe failures loom over summer. Commissioners voted 4-0 Monday to send $3,910 back to the Sudbury Foundation after spending only $3,810 of a $7,720 Fall Fest award, with Chair Mara Huston crediting heavy turnout for keeping food truck and marketing costs down. The same meeting confirmed that pressure testing of the 38-year-old Atkinson Pool dive well "failed pretty significantly," in Huston's words, with original 1987 piping leaking into the ground. Finance Director Dennis Kohane has recommended ARPA funds, and a placeholder spring warrant article is filed. Director Dennis Mannone said Feely Phase 1 bids go out Feb. 27 and are due March 15, and that the Community Preservation Committee approved all five recreation articles, including accessible pathways and basketball court lighting.
