Historical Commission grants 30-day demolition extension for 196 North Road
SUDBURY — February 21, 2023 — Sudbury Historical Commission extends demolition clock 30 days on possible 1715 farmhouse. The panel voted 5-0 Tuesday to give the owner of 196 North Road additional time under the Demolition Delay Bylaw to submit a plan that preserves the front of the structure while adding a rear addition, after Chair Christopher Hagger and member Diana Warren argued the house is "one of the most significant buildings that are still left in Sudbury" and may date to 1715 rather than 1750. The applicant, Mr. Brennan, told members "I do love the beams" and agreed to bring informal plans March 21 ahead of a possible April 18 hearing. In a separate 3-2 vote, commissioners agreed to participate in a Historic Preservation Plan Q&A with Kevin LaHaye's Sudbury Weekly newsletter, with Warren and Diana Sebra opposed on grounds the commission should use official town channels. Treasurer notes from absent member Jan Costa showed roughly $2,000 left in the general fund and $16,000 in the Hosmer Fund through June 30.
