Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission · Meeting of October 8, 2026
Sudbury's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Commission voted unanimously to send Sudbury Public Schools a letter urging it to add Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha and Diwali to next year's calendar and to resume naming religious holidays instead of marking them only "no school." Chair Safa Khan said the School Committee had already agreed its current calendar "is neither equitable nor in alignment with" Lincoln-Sudbury's, which shares busing with Sudbury schools. Member Janine Taylor drafted the letter, calling unnamed holidays "an opportunity lost" for student learning. The School Committee is set to vote October 19 on two calendar drafts.
Resident Sue Rushforth, representing the Sudbury-area Domestic Violence Roundtable, also thanked the commission for co-sponsoring a September 28 webinar on domestic violence among women of color. The commission separately voted to draft a recruitment letter after two members said they won't seek renewal.
