Select Board Proclaims 350th Anniversary of Sudbury Fight
SUDBURY — The Select Board issued a proclamation this week marking the 350th anniversary of the Sudbury Fight, a deadly 1676 clash during King Philip's War, as state health officials confirmed West Nile virus in mosquitoes tested in neighboring Hudson and Marlborough.

The Select Board's proclamation, issued July 15, recognizes that the Sudbury Fight came "violently to our Town of Sudbury 350 years ago on April 21, 1676," in the words of the board's announcement, marking one of the era's most consequential clashes between Native and colonial forces. The Board of Health also issued a mosquito advisory the same day after the Massachusetts Department of Public Health confirmed West Nile virus in mosquitoes tested in Hudson and Marlborough, prompting the town to urge residents to take standard precautions against bites.
On the roads, Sunshine Paving began work July 13 on the town's annual paving project, with the Department of Public Works issuing an updated Concord Road detour plan ahead of work planned for Friday, July 17. Separately, the Community Preservation Committee is now accepting applications for projects seeking Community Preservation Act funding, with recommended proposals to go before the May 2027 Annual Town Meeting.
Town Clerk Alan Fitzgerald's office also issued a half-staff notification: under a Presidential Proclamation issued July 13 marking the death of U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham, Governor Maura Healey has ordered flags lowered statewide.

The Sudbury Public Schools' School Committee posted its notice and agenda for a July 20 meeting, along with notice of an executive session scheduled for July 17. The district also posted a Family Communication update dated July 1 to families this week.
